 							LED ZEPPELIN - A Chronological Celebration Live 1977-1980 MP3@320
I’ve gathered together many of the better sounding live Led Zeppelin recordings of 1977-1980 (mostly soundboard recordings) and are presenting them here for your enjoyment. As with recordings like this there can be cuts, fade outs, fade ins and patching from other sources. This is a music only download if artwork is needed you can find art with matching track lists online at the Zeppelin Art site. If you like this collection, and feel that others may like it as well, then feel free to seed and help keep it alive. This is part three of a three part series. Thanks, Mike.

1977 Tour Announcements Cancelations
Radio broadcasts announcing some Led Zeppelin 1977 concerts. Also announcements of cancelations due to the death of Karac, Robert Plant’s son.

1977.04.27 Cleveland, Richfield Coliseum
This show gets criticized a lot, but it is really a good show, with lots of energy and intensity. The playing is great and the versions of Kashmir, Achilles Last Stand, and Ten Years Gone are exceptional, as is No Quarter. A really enthusiastic crowd feeds off of Zeppelin's energy, making for a memorable show. Soundboard.

1977.05.21 Houston, The Summit
Aside from some minor flaws, the overall level of its performance is very satisfying. The brightest star of this concert is John Bonham who continued to deliver a high level of performance throughout the concert. At this concert, Bonzo also shines especially in his drum solos with marvelous stereo effects, as well as in the very powerful Achilles Last Stand. The recording so vividly and lively relates his amazing technique, power and "feel" that no other drummer in the world would probably ever be able to attain or surpass. Soundboard.

1977.05.22 Fort Worth, Tarrant County Convention Center
The crowd is riotous in this show and it adds a certain amount of chaos and tension to the concert. The band has to restart In My Time Of Dying as Page broke a guitar string. Achilles is the real blowout; one of the most aggressive versions I have ever heard and very powerful. The encores are good and It'll Be Me features Mick Ralphs of Bad Company on second guitar. Soundboard.

1977.05.25 Landover, Capitol Center
The first night of Maryland run. The performance itself is amazing, one of the strongest and best of the 1977 tour. These four nights in Landover were a very strong segment of the tour. Jimmy is on for the whole show and the entire band is playing great and inspired music. Even Robert is in very strong voice and high spirits. No Quarter is excellent and Achilles Last Stand is blistering. Soundboard.

1977.05.26 Landover, Capitol Center
Another strong concert. Since I've Been Loving You is very powerful, No Quarter an epic and Ten Years Gone is also excellent. A great, short, impromptu version of Dancing Days leads into Black Country Woman. Moby Dick for drum solo fans is over 35 minutes long here! This version is a Matrix blending soundboard and audience recordings.

1977.05.28 Landover, Capitol Center
A continuation of the atmosphere and level of playing. In fact all four shows from Landover stands on the same, rather high level. During In My Time Of Dying there is a longer than usual pause before they start the fast boogie section, you can almost see them waiting on Jimmy to start so they can start rocking. Very good version of No Quarter and Kashmir here. Achilles Last Stand is also great except for the opening riffs from Mr Page who played them too early. Soundboard.

1977.05.30 Landover, Capitol Center
The fourth and last night at this venue, this show is one of the best from 1977! Jimmy's playing is amazing, especially in In My Time Of Dying, No Quarter, Achilles Last Stand, and his awesome Stairway To Heaven solo. Ten Years Gone is simply beautiful and epic in scope. Sick Again starts sloppily but after that, this show develops into one of the best from the tour, with each member firing on all cylinders. Soundboard.

1977.06.07 New York, Madison Square Garden
This is the first of a six-night stand in New York and a really good show at that. Kashmir is a little sloppy but the whole show is really powerful and Jimmy is on fire in Achilles Last Stand. The drumming is very sloppy in Stairway to Heaven and everyone chases each other through Rock And Roll, which makes for a very bizarre arrangement. Soundboard.

1977.07.17 Seattle, Kingdome
The show is very good considering the 2-week layoff between the LA Forum gigs and this one. Monitor problems plagued some of their acoustic set. Also, Page broke a string during Bron-Y-Aur Stomp and Jones filled in with jazz improvisation (Plant: "At least we know we can play in the hotel bar afterwards"). Stairway To Heaven has the most beautiful Page solo ever performed, and the show as a whole is strong and full of energy, even though it may not be the most technically perfect one. Audio from Soundboard or Video Soundtrack.

1979.08 Knebworth, England (A “best of” Knebworth)
There are two perfectly simple reasons why Knebworth comes across so well here. One is that the guitar parts have been treated with a generous helping of reverb to counteract the somewhat sticky nature of Pagey's playing during that era and inject a little extra fluency into the proceedings. The crucial factor, though, is the song selection. Consistency was not Led Zeppelin's strong suit in 1979 and Jimmy would have his work cut out to knock a whole show into a shape suitable for official release. Quite simply, this is the Best of Knebworth and, although it doesn't fully resurrect the joy of being in that field, it comes closer than I would have thought possible. The previous remarks are from Eddie Edwards The Garden Tapes site where he also says all seven songs here are from 1979.08.04. Audio from the Led Zeppelin DVD.

1979.08.04 Knebworth Festival, England
A pretty good show the first 45 minutes or so sound good and strong, and Ten Years Gone is very pretty, but towards the middle section, the individual performances, though good, don't quite gel into a good ensemble performance. Achilles Last Stand is aggressive and In the Evening is intense, but Stairway To Heaven sounds timid and tired ... Robert's introduction is so lackluster it is obvious he didn't want to play it. The encores are energetic and good, and Whole Lotta Love features the new arrangement first tried in Copenhagen in July. A short Heartbreaker finishes the event. This version is a Matrix blending soundboard and audience recordings.

1979.08.11 England, Knebworth Festival
Not as good as the first week and also a little more tension in the air. The opening 45 minutes or so sound strong and good, but the intensity starts to flag towards the end. Some problems with Page's guitar and PA system truncated Over The Hills And Far Away and Misty Mountain Hop. This was also the last concert in the United Kingdom but Robert, as he left the stage, said: "We'll see you soon. Very soon. Don't know about the Marquee, but somewhere soon." They couldn't know what happened a year later. Audio from either video soundtrack or soundboard.

1980.06.20 Brussels, Belgium
The boys are in good shape tonight. Jimmy puts in a very respectable performance even getting his portion of All My Love right. Jimmy really shines during Trampled tonight - he's really messing around with the electronics and pulls it off quite well this evening. Plant's introduction of Achilles Last Stand explains that it was written while they travelled across the Sahara desert. Jimmy makes a very rare request to the crowd to be quiet during the start of White Summer as he can't hear himself play. Kashmir, for once, goes off without a hitch. Soundboard.

1980.06.21 Rotterdam, Netherlands
A truly excellent and fiery show in front of a dull and restrained crowd. The band is really playing well, and even Jimmy is on near top form, playing with guts, cleanly and constructing exciting solos and his usual great guitar playing. Trampled Underfoot is a definite highlight, and the encore of Heartbreaker is blistering. This version is an incomplete soundboard beginning with The Rain Song. A few songs may have some audience recording used for patching.

1980.06.29 Zurich, Switzerland
One of the best shows from the 1980 tour, this show has a great version of Heartbreaker and The Train Kept a Rollin'. Jimmy flashes between inspired playing and getting his fingers caught in the strings. The rest of the group play well and seem to be having fun, although they totally botch Kashmir. That caused Plant to comment: "If anybody's bootlegging that, you'll have to scratch that number cause wasn't completely correct - somehow we got through it." Robert's voice is in great shape. This version is a Matrix blending soundboard and audience recordings. About the last third of the song Kashmir is audience recording only.

1980.06.29 Zurich, Switzerland (BBC 3 songs)
This was making the rounds as 4 songs from 1980 recorded by the BBC but it turns out the 4th song, Stairway To Heaven, was from BBC 1971. So here are the three songs Trampled Under Foot, Since I’ve Been Loving You and Achilles Last Stand. Includes an intro by JJ Jackson. It’s possible that the whole show was professionally recorded and even filmed. Time will tell. Radio broadcast.

1980.06.30 Frankfurt, Germany
This show must be tied with the night before for the best 1980 show ever! What an excellent show. One of the few 1980 shows that has no moments of apathy or sluggishness. Fresh ideas and old ones are mixed and the result is one of the best concerts ever in Led Zeppelin's career. Achilles Last Stand is excellent and one of the strongest versions ever and the encores are simply amazing. Robert's voice is great ... he hits all the high notes. What makes this recording more interesting is presentation of Phil Carson, who joined the band for Money. Soundboard.

1980.07.03 Mannheim, Germany
The opening numbers are good, including an extended The Train Kept A Rollin'. Overall, the show is very good although as a whole not quite as good as previous ones on the tour. Still, they are in high sprits and play very well, including a great middle string of numbers. This version is a Matrix blending soundboard and audience recordings.

1980.07.07 Berlin, Germany
The last show of the tour and the last Led Zeppelin show ever! This show alternates between brilliance and boredom, especially from Jimmy. But the good moments are very good. Since I've Been Loving You is a great version and there is a lot of experimentation with a very long and great version of Trampled Underfoot and a long version of Stairway To Heaven. Whole Lotta Love is a long jam that sounds great. Amazing bass from Jones as Jimmy spits out guitar flourishes and Robert and Bonzo cook behind this. One of the two shows from the 1980 Tour that didn't have Achilles Last Stand. But as the last ever show there is historical significance here. This version is a Matrix blending soundboard and audience recordings.

1980.The Radio Report
Radio broadcasts concerning the death of John Bonham and speculations as to the future of Led Zeppelin.
